CAP question

When leading an automation project that requires recipe parameters to be defined so that process reports can be generated and data uploaded to the site enterprise resource planning system, which sets of ISA-sponsored standards would be most helpful in design and execution of the project?

A. ANSI/ISA-S50 and ANSI/ISA-75
B. IEC 61511/ISA-84 and ANSI/ISA-91
C. ANSI/ISA-88 and ANSI/ISA-95
D. IEC 62443/ISA-99 and ISA-100

CAP Answer

The answer is C, ANSI/ISA-88 and ANSI/ISA-95. ANSI/ISA-88, the standard for batch control, and ANSI/ISA-95, the standard for manufacturing operations management, would be most helpful in the design and execution of the project described. ISA-88 fully addresses recipes, download parameters, upload parameters, and batch data collection. ISA-95 addresses the interfaces required for data exchange between the plant control and supervisory systems and the business systems, such as ERP.

The other standards would not be as directly applicable, but each are important in the automation industry:
ANSI/ISA-S50: Foundation Fieldbus
ANSI/ISA-75: Control Valves
IEC 61511/ISA-84: Functional Safety
ANSI/ISA-91: Criticality Ranking for Instrumentation
IEC 62443/ISA-99: Industrial Automation and Control Systems Security
ISA-100: Wireless Systems for Validation
